In a day full of enthusiasm and environmental commitment, the Hacienda Los Mortiños, located at the northern entrance of Cotopaxi National Park, became the scene of a significant reforestation effort.
With the sponsorship of BUPA and the collaboration of Runawana, 65 volunteers of all ages gathered to plant native species such as achupalla, chachacomo, chilca de paramo, piquil and polylepis, contributing to the restoration of this valuable Andean ecosystem.
The morning began with inspiring words from Natalie and Guido, who motivated those present to connect with the importance of their work.
The foundation's technical team shared precise instructions on the correct planting technique, and soon, enthusiasm took over the group.
Although the majestic Cotopaxi appeared shy among the clouds, its presence was felt in every corner of the landscape.
Halfway through the day, the sky decided to join the celebration. Rain began to fall, blessing the small, recently planted trees.
Far from discouraging the volunteers, this gift of nature strengthened their resolve. No one stopped; everyone continued their work with renewed energy, realizing that every drop of water was vital for the new roots.
Among the participants, many familiar faces were recognized, people who have made these days a personal tradition, demonstrating that commitment to nature can become a transforming habit.
For others, it was their first experience in reforestation, discovering the satisfaction of contributing directly to the conservation of the environment.
At the end, a comforting hot chocolate and coffee awaited the volunteers, a perfect reward after the rain and the shared effort.
Beyond the trees planted, the day planted the seed of environmental awareness in each participant.
The involvement of civil society in these initiatives has been extraordinary, reflecting a growing collective commitment to our ecosystems.
On this occasion we deeply thank each volunteer for their invaluable contribution, and especially Natalie and Denisse from Runawana, whose tireless work to convene and be part of these activities represents an inspiring example of community environmental leadership.
We are also grateful for BUPA's financial support and their philosophy that health and the planet's health are intimately linked, a precept we share.
TOGETHER WE ARE PART OF THE SOLUTION
