On December 2, together with 120 volunteers, we planted 1,200 native trees and shrubs and 60 maywas, an orchid native to Quito and Pichincha, in the Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park
Trees are growing well, unfortunately, not all of them are able to adapt to the characteristics of a specific site.
If any tree dries out, it will affect the evolution of the area we are trying to restore, so we organize maintenance days to check the condition of the trees and replace those that have dried out.
Subsequent monitoring is an essential part of the planting process.
Maintenance and replacement of dry trees
On Saturday, March 16, we met with 22 students from the JESSS School to check the condition of the trees, tutors, ties, mulch and also to replace those trees that had dried out.
Previously, María Belén Ribadeneira and Benjamín Guevara gave an environmental education talk at the school to the participants of the activity.
We seek to complement the information provided in the classroom with the parallel work done by the students in practice, visualizing the evolution of the trees they planted and participating in their care.
To each JESSS student who contributed their energy and effort, and to all those who, from different places, made this activity possible
"Every tree you plant makes a difference", Jane Goodall.
