Friday, May 17, 2024, just past, with the sponsorship of BUPA and the participation of 74 volunteers from Colegio de America, we joined together for a Habitat Restoration Day at Hacienda Los Mortiños, north entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. It was inspiring and reinforces our belief that we make a difference, a concrete contribution, be part of the solution.
What we seek is to recover the habitat of an area that was deforested for grazing and cattle ranching.
In this opportunity we planted polylepis, romerillo de páramo, achupallas, jactas, piquil and chilca de páramo, all native flora species that, through the work we are doing, our care and the passage of time, will allow us to recover the original vegetation of the place.
We plant to protect the wetland that is formed in that area, and that, due to the absence of vegetation surrounding it, is at greater risk of disappearing.
Incluyendo lo plantado en esta jornada, ya son 3.300 los árboles y arbustos plantados como parte de este proyecto.
Nuestra meta es alcanzar los 10.000 entre este año y el próximo.
We seek to recover the biodiversity of the area and protect water sources, which is crucial for the ecological balance, the survival of endangered species and the care of our common home.
Colegio de América
We want to highlight the commitment, the good energy, and the joy through the work of 74 brave students of 8th, 1st, and 2nd high school.
The day also counted with the participation of teachers from Colegio de América, whom we also thank for joining the challenge of planting 1100 trees.
Let's continue working together to, through concrete actions, contribute to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
We hope this experience motivates you!
