In a day full of enthusiasm and environmental commitment, volunteers from United Parcel Service (UPS) in Ecuador and with the support of GreenSouls Global joined forces to continue transforming areas of grassland into developing native forests in the Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park, one of the most important green lungs of Quito.
The morning began with inspiring words from the Green Soul team, followed by a dynamic that allowed the 30 volunteers and their families to get to know each other.
Connecting with the earth, feeling it, choosing the tree you will plant, preparing the hole, removing the cover, seeing the roots of that small tree that in the future will give us shade, shelter to other species of animals and plants, clean air, and many other benefits, generates a link between who plants and that tree, this nexus contributes to transform the consciousness and connection with nature of each of us who are part of this experience.
We would like to highlight what Isabela, a 6-year-old girl, shared with us, who surprised everyone with her determination: “I am going to fight global warming by planting my tree”, she declared firmly, reminding us that environmental awareness has no age.
Benjamín, a representative of the foundation, shared with humor and clarity the correct techniques for planting native trees and shrubs such as chilcas, cholán, guagtunsillo, pusupato, yalumán, capulí and others. The children were especially attentive.
Seeing the dedication of the little ones motivates us, their awareness of the environmental problems we face gives us hope for the future.
The day passed with contagious energy. Some volunteers transported the trees, others prepared the soil, while the younger ones waited impatiently for their turn to plant.
Teamwork brought the activity to a quick conclusion, demonstrating that great transformations are possible when hands are joined together for a common cause.
One of the participants, who regularly attends these initiatives, shared: “Planting trees is my way of contributing to the planet. It is an incomparable feeling to see what you planted with your own hands grow”.
At the end, everyone enjoyed a well-deserved snack while contemplating the work done. The foundation thanked the UPS volunteers for their commitment to the environment and their enthusiastic participation in this initiative that, tree by tree, contributes to the restoration of our ecosystems.
This day not only transformed a space in the Metropolitan Park, but also planted seeds of environmental awareness in each of the participants, especially in the youngest, who will be the guardians of the planet in the future.
Fundación Sembrando Esperanza, UPS and GreenSouls Global continue to demonstrate that collaboration between private companies and civil society organizations is fundamental to building a greener and more sustainable future.
