Taking action after the fires<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/div><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The flora on the slopes of the Sn Antonio creek, in Carmen Bajo in Quito, was devastated by the recent fires, trees and shrubs disappeared.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The neighbors tell us that, near the creek, a great variety of hummingbirds and parrots were observed, but after the fires they can no longer see them. Although it is not possible to plant inside the creek due to the steep slope, we were able to plant in the upper part, which is called the buffer zone, in order to protect the creek and its biodiversity and recover the lost habitat for these species and the native fauna.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The streams of Quito are one of the few places where we can still find native vegetation and our fauna, especially birds, hence it is important to protect them, this planting seeks that goal, with 430 trees, this is the first stage, we will plant 400 more trees on January 19, 2025, if you read this note, from now on, you are formally invited to participate.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

It is not the best time to call the neighbors, we are all in end of the year festivities mode, but, thanks to the support of the neighborhood leaders, Rocio and Mayuri, whom we thank again, we achieved a wide call, a group of volunteers also joined us, whom we invited through social networks, it was beautiful to see them all working together side by side, generously contributing their energy, their time, with the reward of knowing that they are contributing to a better city, a better planet and contributing to their community.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The work included the establishment of an 80m fence to protect the trees, shrubs and plants that we will see growing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The species chosen were trees such as carob, pumamaqui, capul\u00ed, guaba, linden, chol\u00e1n, yalom\u00e1n and sachacapul\u00ed, shrubs such as chilcas and guagtunsillo, and also cabuya.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

It was the Environmental Secretariat of the municipality that assigned us the area and the company ECON\u00d3MICA CIC who trusted in the Foundation for this challenge and contributed with the sponsorship of the planting.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The participation of the neighbors was also fundamental, without their support it would have been impossible to achieve the goal, we also thank the volunteers who came from the south, the north and the valleys, they were also essential.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

With each tree we plant, we contribute to mitigate the impacts of climate change, we establish refuges for wildlife, we protect biodiversity, we contribute to cleaner air and we take care of the health of ecosystems.<\/span><\/span><\/p>
