Quito - Ecuador

Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park

It is located north of Quito and is a meeting place for the inhabitants of the city with nature.

Located in northern Quito, the sprawling Metropolitan Park, a vital lung for the city, is a splendid space that creates a vital bridge between citizens and the wealth of nature that surrounds them. Although primarily populated by extensive grasslands and eucalyptus trees, the park's meandering streams still provide a welcoming home to a variety of native flora and fauna, constituting a small but significant habitat in the urban heartland.

Threats

The introduction of the eucalyptus, an exotic species native to Australia, has generated certain barriers to the full flowering of the native biodiversity of the park. This tree, although it has certain benefits, such as its rapid growth and ability to adapt to diverse climates, it is also known to deplete significantly the nutrients in the soil, which can inhibit the growth of other plants in their immediate environment.

However, with the strategic intervention and the layout through the use of native trees, the situation is beginning to change gradually but stunning.
