The morning of April 30 dawned with overcast skies and raindrops that threatened to thwart the reforestation day scheduled in the Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park.
Despite the adverse weather, the Foundation and the Terranova School decided to go ahead with the activity, trusting that nature would understand the noble mission that was about to be carried out.
As if the universe was conspiring in their favor, when the 84 fifth grade students enthusiastically descended from their buses, the sky began to clear.
It was like a silent truce, as if nature knew what we were going to do that day and gave us her blessing.
The day began with words of welcome from Guido Rada, executive director of the Foundation, followed by a practical demonstration by Jessi on the correct planting technique.
The 84 children and their 6 teachers were divided into six groups, each identified with a different colored flag, the goal of which was to plant a tree.
With buckets full of soil and tools in hand, these little guardians of the planet headed to the designated areas to plant native species such as llinllín, wax laurel, pumamaqui, yalomán, podocarpus, pusupato, cholán, aliso, guaba and aliso, among others.
The enthusiasm was palpable as they followed each of the steps to get their tree planted with extreme care.
“Am I doing it right?”, ‘Will my little tree grow big?’, they constantly asked the guides, demonstrating a genuine interest in contributing correctly to this conservation work.
The most touching part of the day was observing how these children understand the seriousness of global warming and are willing to do their bit.
While some adults debate environmental policies, these little ones are acting with determination, planting hope in the form of 84 native trees.
At the end of the planting, several students asked if there were more trees available, eager to continue their work.
This attitude reflects a conscious generation that understands that the future of the planet is in their hands. The day concluded with a well-deserved snack.
From the Foundation we extend our most sincere thanks to the students and teachers of Terranova School, as well as to our dedicated guides, for making this activity a true example of environmental commitment.
In a world where the news about the environment is often discouraging, these 84 little hands remind us that every tree planted is a step towards a greener and more sustainable future.
