First day of the year, 1,044 trees and shrubs with 1 Tree Memorable

First reforestation day at Hacienda Los Mortiños
On this occasion we thank the 1 Tree Memorable 2027 project for the first reforestation day of the year, allowing us to start 2025 on the right foot. The activity took place at Hacienda Los Mortiños, located at the northern entrance of Cotopaxi National Park.
This event not only sought to restore the local ecosystem, but also to encourage community participation in environmental conservation.
The 1 Memorable Tree project is made up of volunteers who are passionate about environmental conservation. Its mission is to promote reforestation activities and raise awareness of the importance of preserving our natural resources.
The goal
The initial goal was to plant 700 native trees and bushes; however, thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of the participants and the sponsorship of Seguros BUPA, we increased the goal to 1,044.
During the event, several native species were planted, such as achupallas, alders, pusupatos, pumamaquis, myrtles, piquiles, chilcas de páramo, romerillo, jactas, polylepis incana and pauta, among others.
The active participation of the younger generations is fundamental, as it represents a great example for future generations of the importance of caring for our environment.
The day was full of positive energy and enthusiasm, which reflected the commitment of all attendees.
Importance of Reforestation in the Paramos
Reforestation in the paramos is crucial to maintain the ecological balance and protect biodiversity, they are essential in protecting water and climate regulators, as well as being home to numerous species.
Planting native trees not only restores lost habitats, but also contributes to mitigating the effects of climate change.
The protection and recovery of our páramos are essential to ensure a healthy environment for future generations.
Acknowledgements
The president of the Ecuadorian Conservation Foundation Sembrando Esperanza was present and encouraged the volunteers to give their best during the day.
