With the sponsorship of the company Pluspetrol, next Friday, September 6, we will plant 1,400 trees in the Guangüiltagua Metropolitan Park in Quito.
In 2022 they joined us planting 1000 trees, in 2023, it was 1200, this will be the largest planting we have done in a single day.
200 volunteers have been called, including 49 students from Letort School.
The preparations
This is by far the biggest effort we are making to prepare a site.
We made a path for volunteer access, building steps that formed stairs, widening the path, clearing brush.
We had to remove a large dry tree that represented a danger.
We will install a 120m long pulleys for transport, that will make the task of bringing the trees down to the site, the black fertilized soil, and the necessary materials for a good planting, less tiring and will allow us to reach our goal.
Prior to planting, 1400 holes are being prepared to accommodate native trees of different species and 150 maywas, the emblematic orchid of Pichincha, since we are promoting its return to the park where it was once common.
Why do we do it?
Trees improve the quality of the air we breathe, contribute positively to our quality of life, form curtains against noise, are a place of refuge for birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles, and small mammals, thus contributing to the preservation of biodiversity. By fixing carbon dioxide, they play an essential role in combating climate change.
Acknowledgements
We extend our gratitude to Pluspetrol, the Metropolitan Park, EPMMOP, and the volunteers who make this journey possible.
We firmly believe that: TOGETHER WE ARE PART OF THE SOLUTION!
The Foundation is not only preparing for a reforestation event, but also planting a seed of hope for a promising and sustainable future.
